Yankees' Elmer Rodriguez Could Get One Final Chance Before Trade

Despite his limited success, with Ryan Weathers and Max Fried sidelined, Rodriguez may get one final opportunity to showcase his abilities with the Yankees. The team has not announced any decisions yet, but promoting Rodriguez back to the majors seems plausible.

However, if the Yankees opt to utilize their bullpen against the Houston Astros, Rodriguez's chance may not arise. The Yankees recently signed Justin Topa, who could serve as an opener and potentially pass the ball to Ryan Yarbrough. Rodriguez could also be a candidate for trade, as the Yankees may have second thoughts about his future if he continues to underperform.

Rodriguez is considered a top-100 prospect, but his lack of overpowering velocity and command issues raise concerns. The Yankees may be more cautious about trading young arms now that they lack pitching depth compared to the start of the season.
