Why the Patriots Sent Kayshon Boutte to Texans After Trade Request

The New England Patriots recently traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in exchange for safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick. This move is not unexpected, as Boutte's performance in his first three NFL seasons with the Patriots has been promising. The recently traded player, who initially requested a trade during the offseason, wanted to join a team that would provide him more playing time.

Despite concerns about the Patriots parting with Boutte due to his significance to the team, the decision was made as the team believed it had sufficient depth in wide receivers. Currently, six wide receivers are expected to make the 53-man roster, meaning keeping Boutte would have required fitting seven receivers, which was not feasible.

Additionally, the Patriots have bolstered their roster with star-caliber wide receiver A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs during the offseason. This trade benefits both teams, with New England gaining a valuable player to address a need position and Houston acquiring an experienced wide receiver who will get more opportunities.
