VW-Betriebsversammlungen: Klarheit oder Frust? VW-Vorstand trifft auf Belegschaft

Wolfsburg is experiencing a period of crisis for Volkswagen, leading to a series of extraordinary meetings between the company's management and its workforce. The workforce has called for clarity from management regarding upcoming cost-cutting measures, which are expected to affect thousands of jobs and four factories. Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume has stated that previous cost-saving measures have not been sufficient, describing the company as "overdimensioned" and "often slow and complicated."

Blume attributes the company's problems to a range of global challenges, including US tariffs, the decline of the Chinese market, geopolitical conflicts, intense competition in Europe, and stringent regulations.

The workforce wants to know how management plans to keep the company viable under these circumstances. However, the current communication from the top has been deemed inadequate by a recent internal survey. The internal communication issue has left employees and their families feeling "unsure and anxious," according to an internal article. The workforce has therefore organized a series of ten Betriebsversammlungen (company meetings) planned by the end of August, where management will answer questions from the workforce.

The discontent among workers, unions, and politicians has become evident in recent days. The works council's president, Daniela Cavallo, has explicitly ruled out job cuts and factory closures. Even Niedersachsen's Minister-President Olaf Lies (SPD) has stated that factory closures are not an option. The IG Metall union in Lower Saxony has threatened to protest sharply if management insists on its cost-cutting plans.

Blume, in an internal interview, described the company meetings as an excellent platform for mutual exchange, especially given the differing perspectives and positions.
