Vote for Journal & Courier Athlete of the Week from Aug. 17-23, sponsored by Ivy Tech

The Journal & Courier is inviting readers to vote for their favorite high school athlete between August 17-23. The poll features 14 candidates from various sports teams in the Lafayette area. To participate, simply refresh the page after each vote until 5 p.m. ET on Friday, August 28.

Some standout performers include Carter Ashley, a freshman cross-country runner from Attica who set a record at the Seeger HS Invite, finishing first in the 3,000-meter race. Blaize Bowman, a senior forward for Benton Central boys soccer, scored four goals and provided an assist in a 1-1-1 draw against the Bison.

Jonah Gerkey, a senior tennis player from Central Catholic, was the turning point in their tie against Harrison, coming back from a 2-point deficit to win 6-2, 6-1. Keegan McCarter, a senior soccer goalkeeper from Central Catholic, saved 10 shots on goal, contributing to the Knights' first win in 20 years against Lafayette Jefferson.

Emilee Rice, a senior golfer from Covington, won the individual Bi-County Championship with a score of 91. Josh Inskeep, a senior cross-country runner from Crawfordsville, secured first place in the boys 5,000m race at the Fountain Central Grand Prix. Kelsey Olehy, a senior setter for Faith Christian volleyball, delivered 86 assists in their last four games, which the team won 2-2.

Nola Painter, a junior golfer from Harrison, led the Raiders to victory with a low score of 39. Noemi Munoz, a senior cross-country runner from Lafayette Jefferson, placed third in the girls 5,000m race at the Logansport Jacob Graf Invite. Genesis Reyes, a junior soccer player from North Montgomery, has been instrumental in their 3-0 start, contributing with seven goals and seven assists.
