Unable to find employment in US, Hyderabad youth dies by suicide in Texas — ‘Weighed down by financial pressure’

Unable to secure employment after earning his master's degree in computer science from Anderson University College of Business in South Carolina, Sai Pradeep, a young man from Hyderabad, took his own life in San Antonio, Texas on August 21, 2024, as per his family and posts on social media platforms from the US Indian community. Struggling to find a job, he was reportedly depressed and burdened by financial constraints.

Pradeep moved to the US in 2024 and, to cover the cost of repatriating his body to Dammaiguda, Hyderabad and funeral expenses, his cousin Deepthi initiated a GoFundMe campaign. "In 2024, he came to the US. He recently finished his master's degree and was looking for a job," was the caption on the GoFundMe page.

Deepthi praised her cousin for his curiosity and eagerness to learn, highlighting how swiftly he mastered Spanish during his time in the US. The post on GoFundMe also commended him for his strength, determination, kindness, and love for life. Known affectionately as 'Deepu', he was remembered on the GoFundMe page for his unwavering dedication to health and fitness, inspiring those around him with his discipline, hard work, and consistency.

"Over the years, Deepu's dedication to his health and fitness inspired those around him. Through discipline, hard work, and countless hours in the gym, he transformed himself and showed the power of determination and consistency. He will always be remembered for his warmth, strength, and positive energy," the post read.

The GoFundMe campaign had raised over $28,400 of its $35,000 target as of Tuesday, June 24. Any remaining funds would be donated to support Pradeep's parents. Prior to moving abroad, Pradeep held a position at Amazon in Hyderabad. Friends and colleagues on social media described him as kind, respectful, professional, and genuinely good-hearted.

On June 22, 2024, a 25-year-old Hyderabad student, S Srinath Reddy, who was pursuing higher education in London, was found dead. Madhusudan Reddy, Srinath's father, stated that his son had communicated normally with family members on the night of June 22, adding that they attended a birthday party together. A roommate of Srinath's, who discovered him dead on the morning of June 23, claimed that Srinath had hanged himself before dying.
