2027: APC Disowns Hunye, Insists Yayi Remains Ogun Governorship Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally disavowed Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the Ogun governorship election in 2027, labeling him an imposter. National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru made the announcement in a statement on Monday in Abuja. According to Basiru, Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.

The suspension was not arbitrary but resulted from a decision by the grassroots, executive ratification, and formal approval by the State Working Committee. Basiru emphasized that Hunye's recent declaration as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election is false, unauthorized, and a tactic aimed at misleading the public.

The reasons cited for his suspension included engaging in activities that tarnish the party’s image, undertaking anti-party activities, and deliberately causing disaffection and division among loyal members. Consequently, Hunye lacks the legal and moral authority to represent the APC in any capacity. The party reaffirmed that the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Olamilekan, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.

Their names and details have been uploaded to INEC’s portal and acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The APC national secretary warned that any association or collaboration with Hunye under the guise of the APC would be at the party's own risk and would not be held liable for any resulting financial losses, legal disputes, or criminal liabilities.

Basiru urged party supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and ignore any provocations from detractors attempting to disrupt state peace. He also advised all concerned to contact the APC national secretariat for clarification and official updates.
