Trump threatens Lake Ontario to be named 'Lake America'

US President Donald Trump has proposed renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America amid escalating tensions with Canada. The president stated in a post on Truth Social that the US is considering the name change due to a lack of expected business with Ontario. Lake Ontario, one of the five Great Lakes, lies on the border of Canada's Ontario province and the US state of New York.

Canada's minister responsible for US trade, Dominic LeBlanc, dismissed the suggestion, stating that Canada would not respond to social media posts by the US administration. This comes after Trump altered the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America last year, and as the US and Canada engage in a deepening trade war. The US has imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods, while Canada retaliated by announcing tariffs on $20 billion worth of US goods.

In response to the escalating conflict, the Canadian government has provided financial assistance to businesses and workers affected by the trade war.
