Trump says he’s considering renaming Lake Ontario as ‘Lake America’ as trade war escalates

Such a renaming would echo the unilateral action taken by the former Republican president, who, via executive order, renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America last year.

In a recent social media post, Trump stated that the U.S. is contemplating this change, considering the potential for reduced business dealings with Ontario, as it is the most populous province in Canada and a hub for the country's auto industry. The trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada escalated further when Canada announced retaliatory measures on Tuesday, following the imposition of 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods by the Trump administration over the weekend.
