Tian Chua eyes Parliament comeback, open to contesting Batu again

PKR veteran Tian Chua, a former Batu MP for two terms, expressed his desire to return to Parliament and potentially contest Batu again. The 62-year-old stated that he still possesses the energy to contribute to the Parliament and reiterated his openness to the prospect, citing strong support from constituents. However, the final decision on his parliamentary candidacy would be determined by the party leadership as part of their election strategy.

Tian Chua was initially barred from defending his Batu seat in the 2018 general election due to a RM2,000 court fine, which led him to support independent candidate P Prabakaran. Prabakaran won the seat and later joined the party. In January 2023, Tian Chua was dismissed from PKR after he contested Batu as an independent in the 2022 general election against Prabakaran, the party's chosen candidate.

Despite his recent dismissal, Tian Chua remains deeply connected to the Batu constituency. He noted that community members have expressed a strong desire for his return to serve them. As a long-standing member of the community, Chua aims to contribute to PKR's legacy as a permanent political entity. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity, equality, and the development of a political base that can withstand electoral fluctuations.

Drawing parallels with established Western political parties, Tian Chua urged PKR to aspire to become a lasting political institution that can represent specific societal values and interests for future generations.
