It is wrong to cancel Telangana CM’s US visit

The Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, was unexpectedly forced to depart India without completing his planned United States visit after the Ministry of External Affairs denied him the necessary political clearance. This decision, which led to the cancellation of the second leg of his foreign journey, has been met with criticism for potentially undermining India's growing global prominence and diplomatic goodwill.

The MEA's assessment of the CM's itinerary, which included potential meetings with the New York City mayor and the US Vice President, was deemed incompatible with the trip's primary objective of attracting investment to Telangana, including through educational collaborations. This decision has been criticized as narrow-minded and unbecoming of a developing nation like India, which emphasizes its increasing confidence on the world stage and its role in fostering international knowledge centers like Hyderabad.

By curtailing Reddy's foreign trip, the government is perceived as acting small-mindedly and heavy-handedly, potentially sending a negative signal both domestically and internationally. This action has been viewed as part of a worrying pattern of antagonism and deteriorating dialogue between the ruling government and the opposition at home.

Despite being the second Chief Minister of a recently formed state and having a background in the ABVP, Reddy has been noted for his pragmatic approach and cordial relations with the Modi government. However, recent political maneuvering has brought back divisive rhetoric and accusations, with the BJP in Telangana alleging that the MEA's decision was aimed at curbing engagement with "anti-India" and/or "anti-BJP" elements, and potentially destabilizing national security.

The recent Operation Sindoor in May 2025 saw the Modi government dispatch seven multi-party delegations to foreign capitals, aimed at presenting India's case while projecting national unity. This process, however, has now been brought into question following CM Reddy's abbreviated trip, which has been seen as a concerning step backward.
