SpaceX to build Starship rocket complex in Louisiana

SpaceX has announced plans to build a Starship launch site in southern Louisiana, marking a significant expansion of the company's rocket development capabilities. The 125,000-acre site, named Starbase, Louisiana, will be constructed near the proposed location in Vermilion Parish and aims to commence construction next year. This new facility will enable SpaceX to launch thousands of Starship missions annually, diversifying its operations beyond South Texas.

The expansive coastal marshland, larger than Manhattan, will transform into a self-sustaining spaceport equipped with propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an airport. Governor Jeff Landry hailed the deal as an inflection point for Louisiana, emphasizing the project's potential to generate employment, stimulate local communities, and safeguard the coastline.

This initiative complements SpaceX's existing launch sites in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, and the South Texas-based Starbase.
