Lauren London will take on the role of Snoop Dogg's mother, Beverly Tate, in the upcoming biopic about the rapper. The film, produced by Universal Pictures, is set to release in U.S. theaters on August 6, 2027. According to Deadline, the movie will also cast Camron Jones as Snoop's fellow Death Row rapper, 2Pac. Director Craig Brewer, known for Hustle & Flow, is helming the project.
The biopic features Jonathan Daviss as Snoop Dogg and Myle Bullock as Dr. Dre. Beverly Tate, who played a significant role in Snoop's career, was his mother and began calling him "Snoopy" after the Peanuts character. Snoop Dogg and 2Pac's careers intersected during the mid-1990s when they were at the top of their game in the rap industry.
They collaborated on the hit song "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" and Snoop even inducted Pac into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. London's connection to Snoop extends beyond her character in the film, as she previously appeared in his music video for "Drop It Like It's Hot" in 2004. Nipsey Hussle, London's partner, had been offered the role of Snoop Dogg in the 2015 N.W.A. biopic, but he declined, allowing LaKeith Stanfield to take the part instead.
London's recent projects include starring in the 2023 film You People and making an appearance in Tyler, The Creator's "Darling, I" music video.
