‘Outer Banks’ Season 5 Debuts Atop Netflix TV List With 9.4 Million Views, Down From Season 4 Launch

Netflix's "Outer Banks" concluded its fifth and final season with impressive ratings, debuting at the top of its TV shows list with 9.4 million views during the week of August 17, 2024. Although this number was slightly lower compared to the series' previous season, "Outer Banks" Season 5 managed to outperform many other TV shows in terms of viewership.

Season 4, Part 1, which premiered in October 2024, garnered 15.5 million views, while Part 2 debuted to 8.6 million views. The slight decline in viewership can be attributed to the series embracing a binge release model, as opposed to the more staggered approach of Season 4. This marks the fourth consecutive top spot for "Outer Banks" in its debut week.

Netflix is hopeful that the series' continued success will lead to the development of a prequel series, set to be created by the show's original creators, Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke. In the rankings, "Outer Banks" was followed by "My Brilliant Career" Season 1 in second place with 4.7 million views, and "My Life With the Walter Boys" Season 3 in third place with 4.3 million views.

Shane Gillis' "Tires" claimed the fifth spot with 2.8 million views, marking its highest-ever ranking. On the film side, "Don't Say Good Luck," starring Sunny Sandler, led the charts with 12.8 million views, closely followed by "The Last House" at No. 2 with 12 million views in its third week. The documentary "Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing" claimed the third position with 4.7 million views, while Kevin Hart's comedy "72 Hours" held the fourth place with 4 million views, maintaining its fifth-week presence on the list.
