Shonda Rhimes Renews Netflix Overall Deal for 5 Years

Shonda Rhimes has extended her overall deal with Netflix for an additional five years, ensuring her TV production company, Shondaland, and producing partner Betsy Beers continue to develop shows, films, games, merchandise and live events at the streaming giant. Based at Netflix since 2017, Rhimes praised the partnership, stating it has produced genuine phenomena that have influenced fashion, music and culture beyond the screen.

Netflix's Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria expressed pride in remaining the platform where Shondaland continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The renewal comes as Rhimes and Netflix capitalize on the success of "Bridgerton," one of the most-watched streaming shows in the first half of 2026, and further solidifies Rhimes' status at the platform amidst other top creators seeking new homes.

Those include the Duffer Brothers, who signed an overall deal with Paramount in 2025, and Ryan Murphy, creator of Netflix's "Monster" franchise, who returned to Disney in 2023.
