Seven Arrested in Ashanti Region Drug Swoop

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the IGP Special Operations Team (SOT) conducted intelligence-led drug raids in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. The operations took place in Ejisu, Abrepo Junction, and Atimatim.

At Ejisu, local authorities apprehended Nana Kwadwo Adu, 43, and Nana Kwame Fella, 48. In Abrepo Junction, four others - Stephanie Anokye, 23; Roland Anokye, 20; Gideon Owusu, 30; and Grace Fosua, 27 - were taken into custody. At Atimatim, Kofi Opoku, 27, was arrested on suspicion of narcotics trafficking and had a history of evading previous arrests.

The Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Supt. Godwin Ahianyo, disclosed that the raids yielded pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, various pharmaceuticals, and 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol. Authorities also seized an unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency. All seven suspects are currently in police custody and cooperating with the investigation.

The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the source of the substances, gauge the full involvement of the suspects, and identify any additional individuals connected to the alleged activities. The police have encouraged the public to continue supplying credible information to help maintain public safety and security.
