Akume’s Absence From 2027 Campaign List Costly Ommission, Says North Central APC Stakeholders

Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders have criticized the exclusion of key figures from the region, notably Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, from the 2027 presidential campaign council list. In a statement, the group emphasized that this omission is not merely an oversight but a serious concern that could alienate a vital group ahead of the elections.

They urged for a meaningful review of the campaign council list, warning against mere tokenism. The stakeholders pointed out that the original campaign list sparked public discontent due to its apparent dismissal of critical stakeholders and skewed representation. They highlighted Senator Akume, a key player in the peace accord with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a crucial figure for the APC in Benue and the North Central.

The group insisted that his absence cannot be overlooked, describing it as "a glaring one." They cautioned that the exclusion of the Tiv people, a significant voting bloc in Benue, could have severe political implications. The stakeholders emphasized that President Tinubu must ensure that the revised campaign council reflects the true value of Benue and the Tiv people's political contributions, warning that token representation is no longer acceptable.

They urged the President to utilize his directive on automatic return to ensure genuine inclusion of those who supported his victory in 2023. The group concluded by stressing that meaningful inclusion, strategic recognition, and appropriate representation are what North Central, Benue, and the Tiv people deserve in the upcoming electoral process.
