Sabalenka, Djokovic knocked out in first round of US Open mixed doubles

Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic's US Open mixed doubles journey came to an end in the first round after a loss to doubles specialists Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten. The top-ranked pair started strongly but faltered, falling 1-4, 4-2 (10-2) to the world No. 1s in women's doubles. Sabalenka and Djokovic, who are accustomed to singles play, will now concentrate solely on their individual campaigns at the tournament.

Siniakova and Patten, who are also ranked No. 1 in men's doubles, will next face Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals. The star-studded event, which attracted many leading singles players, was held over two days with a quicker scoring format to reduce the physical strain on the participants. Despite their early exit, Sabalenka and Djokovic, ranked first in women's and men's singles respectively, will still have the chance to win a $1 million prize. Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz were also set to compete in the opening round.
