Rawda Award highlights media category ahead of its activation

Doha, Qatar - The inaugural workshop for the Media Category of the Rawda Award for Excellence in Social Work took place at the award's headquarters in Al-Legtaifiya. Participants were briefed on the award's objectives, eligibility, and evaluation criteria for the new category, which will be part of the next edition of the annual prize.

The Media Category was introduced among the five main categories established by Amiri Decision No. (16) of 2025. Despite not being awarded in the first edition in April 2026, the category is now poised for activation. The CEO of the Rawda Award, Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Ishaq, emphasized the significance of recognizing media institutions and their initiatives, stating that assessments should consider factors beyond just project size or budget, such as reach, effectiveness, innovation, community engagement, and contribution to social change.

The workshop featured a detailed presentation by Mohamed Al-Mohannadi, a member of the award's executive team, who explained the Media Category's evaluation framework. The criteria encompass six main areas: alignment with national strategies (20%), effectiveness of social media impact (15%), media values, responsibility, and objectivity (10%), professionalism in planning and executing social media campaigns (15%), creativity and innovation in social media work (10%), and reach, scalability, and impact measurement (30%).

The criteria underscore the importance of media initiatives addressing Qatar's priority social issues, reinforcing national identity and values, supporting national strategies, and reaching specific target groups. The evaluation framework also considers the quality and effectiveness of media content, the presence of a clear strategy linked to social and development objectives, evidence of increased awareness or positive behavioral change, and the sustainability of media efforts beyond short-term campaigns.

The Rawda Award, supervised by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, encompasses a wide array of social work fields, including community protection and welfare, heritage, education, health, mental wellbeing, humanitarian crises, environmental sustainability, culture, awareness media, sports, youth, charity, innovation, and family and child development.

The award is divided into five main categories – individuals, families, non-profit organizations, the private sector, and media – each assessed according to a structured framework that balances the quality of the idea, implementation, results, and social impact.

The workshop aims to strengthen the role of media within the Rawda Award's social-work framework, encouraging organizations and content creators to develop initiatives that generate measurable and sustainable social impact.
