Ramiz Raja addresses Imran Khan situation: ‘It has been a tough one for him’

The Senate witnessed a heated exchange between the opposition and the government on Tuesday, as both sides accused each other of contempt of a Supreme Court (SC) order regarding the medical treatment of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan. On August 18, the apex court had ordered the government to shift Khan to the Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad and establish a medical board, including his sister and personal physician.

However, the government instead moved Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) citing security concerns, and later returned him to Adiala jail after his medical board declared him fit. The opposition, including PTI Senator Azam Swati, accused the government of violating the SC order and playing politics with Khan's health.

The government, through Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, defended its actions, stating that it complied with the SC order and that security arrangements were being assessed. The opposition demanded the government to implement the court order "in letter and spirit" and proposed forming a Senate committee to visit the jail.
