‘Another Trump Attempt to Rig Elections’: Lawmakers Respond to Supreme Court Win for Trump Mail-in Voting Restrictions

The Supreme Court has given President Donald Trump a win in his efforts to restrict mail-in voting ahead of the November midterm elections. In a 6-3 ruling, the court lifted a lower court's June block on the President's Executive Order targeting mail-in voting. The decision came after a group of 23 Democratic states and Washington D.C. sued the Administration for the order's alleged unconstitutionality and presidential overreach. Democrats have responded strongly to the ruling.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the decision "another Trump attempt to rig elections and destroy democracy" and vowed that California would continue to sue to block the implementation of the order. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer described the ruling as a "disgrace" and said the Order was "blatantly unconstitutional." Other Democrats, including Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Maria Cantwell, criticized the decision and expressed concerns about voter privacy.

Republicans, on the other hand, celebrated the Supreme Court's decision. Utah Senator Mike Lee declared it a "major win for the security of American elections" and urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act to secure future elections. White House spokesperson Lauren Bis stated that the ruling protects the security of mail-in ballots and ensures only Americans are electing American leaders.
