Radio host says 49ers roster is on verge of disaster for one reason

Colin Cowherd, a prominent analyst, expressed his concerns over the San Francisco 49ers' roster, predicting a possible downfall. On Monday's episode of The Herd, Cowherd compared the team to the movie "Thelma and Louise," warning that the 49ers might drive off a cliff. He highlighted the team's age and the fact that most of its veteran players are recovering from surgeries.

Cowherd singled out five key players aged 30 or above: Trent Williams, left tackle (38); George Kittle, a potential Hall of Famer recovering from surgery; Nick Bosa, who had his second surgery; Christian McCaffrey, who led the NFL in touches; and Mike Evans, who is often injured. He believes the 49ers are on the verge of disaster, with the team featuring five non-quarterback skill players aged 30 or older, a record only matched by a few teams in Super Bowl history, and none of whom have had much postseason success.

Cowherd also pointed to the team's poor draft picks since 2020, notably the Trey Lance trade-up disaster, which has further contributed to his pessimistic outlook. The 49ers face a tough opening against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia, followed by a soft schedule, but a challenging stretch against Seattle and Denver awaits them.
