Public toilets maintained, markets upgraded, drains improved: Housing Ministry says six initiatives surpass targets

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 25 — Six substantial projects spearheaded by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) under Budget 2026 have outperformed expectations by July 31, with public toilets in local authority areas achieving the highest success rate at 734 per cent, according to Minister Nga Kor Ming. The minister attributed this success to the Madani Government's efficient and responsive execution of initiatives aimed at delivering improved public facilities.

"Every ringgit allocated by the Government is translating into real, tangible benefits for the people," he stated, emphasizing that funds should result in projects visible, tangible, and enjoyed by the populace. Since 2023, KPKT has completed nearly 16,000 public facility projects and been honored with the National Development Award and the Prime Minister’s Innovation Award.

The public toilet maintenance project in PBT areas, funded at RM30 million, surpassed targets with 367 successful implementations, marking a 734 per cent achievement and outperforming the initial target of 50 projects. Additionally, the construction and upgrade of 102 Madani stalls in dilapidated markets exceeded expectations at 170 per cent, while 152 per cent of 200 targeted projects for non-Muslim places of worship were completed, using RM50 million.

Drainage and sewerage system upgrades achieved a 102.67 per cent success rate, with 154 out of 150 projects implemented, utilizing RM55 million. All 113 fire station and station-keeper quarters upgrades were also completed, and 57 of the 64 Bomba Bersama Rakyat Programme projects were accomplished, achieving an 89 per cent implementation rate.

Nga stressed KPKT's commitment to completing the remaining programmes by year-end to meet or exceed the 100 per cent target. This accomplishment reflects effective collaboration among ministries, departments, agencies, local authorities, industry partners, and the community, aiming to implement the Malaysia Madani development agenda comprehensively.

KPKT will continue to enhance service delivery, focusing on performance, results, and impact on the people to ensure efficient and effective implementation of all initiatives.
