Police rescue three kidnap victims, recover stolen car, firearms in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command announced on Tuesday that its Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit operatives, backed by the Neighbourhood Watch and community members, rescued three victims and recovered a stolen Lexus RX350, firearms, ammunition and other evidence. The operation, sparked by an intelligence report on August 18, 2026, involved a pursuit through the Port Harcourt Expressway, ending at Hillview Road, Independence Layout.

There, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and weapons, facilitating the safe rescue of the three victims.

Recovered from the scene were the victims' car, a Beretta-like pistol, a pair of gloves, a mask, and a mobile phone. The police are intensifying investigations to apprehend the suspects, urging the public to provide timely and credible information. Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa praised the swift and coordinated response of the operatives, Neighbourhood Watch and vigilant citizens, vowing to continue intelligence-led, community-supported operations against kidnappings, armed robbery, car theft and other violent crimes.
