Police arrest seven in Ashanti Region narcotics crackdown

The Ghana Police Service conducted intelligence-led operations targeting narcotics-related activities in the Ashanti Region, arresting seven individuals on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team (SOT) carried out the raids at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction, and Atimatim.

At Ejisu, police apprehended Nana Kwadwo Adu, 43, and Nana Kwame Fella, 48. Four others were taken into custody at Abrepo Junction – Stephanie Anokye, 23; Roland Anokye, 20; Gideon Owusu, 30; and Grace Fosua, 27.

In Atimatim, Kofi Opoku, 27, was targeted for suspected involvement in narcotics distribution. He had allegedly evaded arrest in the past. The operation resulted in the recovery of pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, along with Tramaking 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg, Rophynol 100mg, and 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol, suspected to be unregistered drugs. Additionally, an unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency was seized.

All seven suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with the investigation. The police are working to uncover the source of the narcotics, determine the extent of the suspects' involvement, and identify any other individuals connected to the illicit activities.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to provide credible information to aid their efforts in maintaining public safety and security. They assured the public that further updates will be provided as necessary.
