PKR returnees not guaranteed seats in next election, says Azman

Federal territories PKR chief Azman Abidin has stated that former PKR members returning to the party should not expect automatic appointment as candidates in the next election. He emphasized that the party selection process does not prioritize veteran leaders, long-serving members, new faces, or younger leaders, but rather focuses on a candidate's ability to win the seat.

Azman's comments came in response to Tian Chua's desire to return as MP for Batu, a constituency where he previously held the seat for two terms. Tian Chua, who was previously sacked from PKR in January 2023, indicated that he still enjoys strong support among voters in Batu. However, Azman clarified that while a leader's experience can be an advantage, the final decision on candidacy rests with the party's central leadership, considering factors such as loyalty, teamwork, and adherence to PKR's principles.

Azman also noted that leaders' motivations for returning to the party might not solely be to contest elections, but rather to strengthen Anwar Ibrahim's government.
