Otu’s Green Revolution: Leboku Champions Agric Prosperity

Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu has pledged to prioritize agriculture as a key driver of sustainable economic growth, wealth generation, and rural prosperity through his Green Economy Revolution. At the 21st Leboku International New Yam Festival, Otu highlighted that the theme 'Rooted in Culture, Growing in Prosperity' aligns with his administration's People First Agenda, specifically its commitment to transforming agriculture from a subsistence activity into a commercially viable enterprise.

The governor announced plans to implement a comprehensive agricultural intervention programme, including the establishment of cluster farms supported by revolving loans, provision of tractors and ploughing machines, and improving market linkages. Governor Otu's administration has also unveiled a N70 billion ($1.075 billion) Public-Private Partnership investment package, with agriculture-related investments forming the largest share.

The governor emphasized that economic prosperity could only be achieved in an environment of peace and stability, and warned that traditional rulers who fail to uphold peace would have their certificates of recognition withdrawn. Effiong Ekpenyong, Special Adviser on Events Management for Governor Otu, emphasized the festival's role in connecting Yakurr's cultural heritage with economic aspirations, stressing that culture should be deployed as a resource for creating opportunities and attracting investment.

He urged the younger generation to take ownership of Yakurr's cultural heritage and transform it into modern creative and economic opportunities.
