Oil tanker struck by unidentified projectile off Oman, UKMTO says

An oil tanker was struck and disabled by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred on Tuesday, causing damage to the engine room but leaving the crew unharmed. The vessel was nine nautical miles northeast of Ash Shishah in Oman when the attack happened.

The source did not reveal the nationality of the ship or its direction of travel. Iran has been blocking the strait since the US and Israel struck Iran in late February, attempting to charge tolls for passage and accusing ships of trying to bypass their preferred route. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had previously announced plans on Monday to economically "asphyxiate" Iran as the Middle East conflict enters its sixth month.
