After viral Bengal school fight, allegations of a scam, counter complaints

A woman staff member and the teacher-in-charge at a government school in Malda district, West Bengal, have filed police complaints against each other following a viral video of the staff member being assaulted by a group of students. The altercation occurred on August 21, 2026. The non-teaching staff member, who began working at the school last year, alleged she was assaulted after refusing to issue transfer certificates, which she suspected were related to financial irregularities in the midday meal scheme.

She also claimed the teacher-in-charge instigated the students to attack her. The teacher-in-charge, in turn, accused the woman staff member and her family of assaulting him and other teachers outside the school. Both parties have now lodged counter-complaints against each other with the police.
