NYA CEO urges Ghanaian youth to take an active role in decision-making

The CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA) in Ghana, Osman Abdulai Ayariga, has called upon young people to actively participate in decision-making and governance. He emphasized that they are not merely waiting to become citizens, but already have a legitimate stake in the country's development. Addressing the National Youth Parliament Mock Sitting, Ayariga argued that democracy cannot flourish unless all sectors of society have a say in shaping the nation's course.

He urged young people to engage with national issues, challenge policies, propose alternatives, and contribute significantly to discussions on matters affecting their lives and communities. Ayariga highlighted that the National Youth Parliament serves as a crucial platform for young people to understand democratic institutions, enhance civic competence, and gain practical experience in parliamentary processes.

He stressed that this engagement should extend beyond mere speeches and events to establish mechanisms ensuring the views, proposals, and recommendations of young people are integrated into policy and national development efforts. Furthermore, Ayariga challenged the youth to prepare themselves for the responsibilities of leadership by acquiring knowledge, competence, and character.

He cautioned against relying solely on social media for civic participation, urging them to bring their voices into their communities, schools, workplaces, and other formal institutions where critical decisions are made.
