Navi Mumbai Crime Branch Arrests 2 In Kharghar Chain-Snatching Case; 5 More Offences Detected

On August 25, 2026, the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch, Unit-1, Vashi, made an arrest in connection with a chain-snatching incident that occurred in Kharghar. The two individuals arrested were Naushad Mustaq Alam, alias Sagar, aged 32, from Kamothe, and Prashant Raju Magar, alias Prashant Bhagwan Waghmare, aged 36, who resided near the U-Turn Bridge opposite White House on Thane-Belapur Road in Khairane MIDC.

The arrests took place on August 18 and the two were subsequently placed in judicial custody by a court on August 24. The Crime Branch was able to identify the suspects through CCTV footage from the crime scene and the surrounding areas, aided by the information provided by a confidential informant. The accused had a history of criminal offenses, with Alam having 41 previous cases to his name, including house-breaking, theft, and robbery of gold chains, while Waghmare had six similar cases.

During their interrogation, the suspects confessed to five additional chain-snatching and robbery offenses in Kharghar, Koparkhairane, and Rabale. The police recovered six gold chains, weighing a total of 69.950 grams and valued at Rs 7,39,627, along with a black Honda Shine motorcycle bearing the registration number MH-05-CF-0716, valued at Rs 35,000.

The police are continuing their investigation to trace and recover any remaining stolen property. The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Bhau Saheb Dhole and was overseen by Senior Police Inspector Vikas Ghodke, with the assistance of several other police personnel.
