NASA, ESA Astronauts Suiting Up for Antenna Installation Spacewalk

NASA astronaut Anil Menon and ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot are preparing for a spacewalk outside the International Space Station. The spacewalk is set to start at around 8:35 a.m. EDT and is expected to last approximately six and a half hours. The astronauts will work on the installation of a replacement Space-to-Ground antenna, a vital component that facilitates high-speed data transmission between NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston and the space station.

During a previous spacewalk on August 18, Menon and Adenot removed a malfunctioning Space-to-Ground antenna and secured it to the space station's truss structure. However, they encountered delays due to the time required to disconnect electrical cables and loosen bolts. As a result, the installation of the replacement antenna took longer than anticipated.

Menon, who will serve as crew member 1 in a suit with red stripes, is slated to make this his third spacewalk, while Adenot, a second-time spacewalker, will be the crew member 2 in an unmarked suit. This spacewalk will mark Menon's third mission in space and Adenot's second. It will also be the 283rd spacewalk performed as part of the ongoing work on the International Space Station, including assembly, maintenance, and upgrades.
