MCA perlu terjemah ‘kejayaan kecil’ dengan tembusi kubu DAP, kata penganalisis

Analyst Lau Zhe Wei emphasizes that the MCA's small victories in the recent PRN elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan are not enough to prove their ability to regain the trust of their voters, particularly among the large Chinese population. The analyst notes that the wins were partly due to the support of the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions, especially the Malay vote in constituencies contested by MCA.

MCA needs to rebuild voter confidence through consistent performance and solutions to issues, rather than relying solely on campaign promises and political pledges.

MCA President Wee Ka Siong urges the party's leaders and members not to be quick to celebrate or feel ashamed of their "small victories," referring to the positive results in the PRN elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan on July 11th and August 1st, respectively. The BN claimed a strong performance through cooperation with PN, which allowed them to take over the government from Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Negeri Sembilan.

This cooperation may continue in upcoming elections, particularly the PRN Melaka, expected before the end of the year.

However, Mazlan Ali from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) warns that such cooperation could bring new challenges for MCA if the joint campaign is dominated by a Malay-Islam narrative. He states that MCA benefited from the unity of Malay voters in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, but this does not mean the influence of DAP among non-Malay voters has diminished.

If the issues in the mutually supportive environment primarily revolve around Malay-Islam concerns, sympathy or support for MCA may decrease among non-Malay voters. This situation risks increasing MCA's dependence on Malay voters for victory, while non-Malay voters might continue to choose DAP. MCA needs to prove it can still represent the interests of the Chinese community while demonstrating its role is not limited to one community alone, which is crucial if they wish to regain the trust of the majority voters and prove that their recent achievements are not merely temporary.
