Maharashtra Withdraws August 14 GR On Tribal Hostels; Removes Age Restriction For Student Admissions

On August 25, 2026, the Maharashtra government announced the withdrawal of a Government Resolution (GR) issued on August 14, 2026, affecting government-run tribal hostels, including the consolidated revised guidelines under it. Tribal Development Minister Dr Ashok Uike made the announcement at a meeting chaired in his official residence, Lohgad, after reviewing facilities, admission procedures, and hostel management for students residing in government tribal hostels.

The meeting included tribal MPs, MLAs, department officials, and the TRTI Commissioner. The withdrawal of the GR eliminates the age restriction for admission to government tribal hostels, prioritizing students' education needs and addressing concerns raised by elected representatives. Uike directed officials to develop a more effective system for admission procedures, facilities, administrative processes, and supervision to ensure students receive essential services without disruption.

The hostel system must foster a conducive environment for students' education and overall development, addressing existing difficulties and improving hostel services, he emphasized. The minister also requested the department to consider public representatives' suggestions positively while creating a student-centric, transparent, and efficient hostel administration system.

Uike stressed that the government's goal is to ensure tribal students receive necessary facilities and support for their academic progress, emphasizing that the department will prioritize streamlining hostel management and enhancing services centered around students' interests.
