Maharashtra Eyes Global Space Industry Hub Through ‘Spacefest’; Minister Uday Samant Highlights Jobs, Investment And Innovation

Mumbai, August 25, 2026 - Maharashtra is aiming to become a global hub for space-related industries by hosting the inaugural 'Spacefest', according to Industries Minister Uday Samant. The event, set to take place in Mumbai, will bring together science, space technology, and entertainment through gaming and esports. Organized in collaboration with Nodwin Gaming, a global entertainment company, the initiative seeks to attract students, young entrepreneurs, and aspiring professionals to the burgeoning space sector.

Samant emphasized that Spacefest would go beyond mere entertainment, providing a platform for young people to learn about and engage with emerging opportunities in space technology and related fields. Maharashtra has been instrumental in India's space missions, notably in the Chandrayaan programme, with numerous small and medium enterprises contributing essential components.

The minister pointed out that Pune, in particular, has played a significant role in manufacturing aircraft components, satellite parts, and defense technologies.

To capitalize on these opportunities, the state government will provide necessary infrastructure and industrial land to promote space-related industries. Hubs and clusters for the defense sector are already being developed in Shirdi, Ratnagiri, and other locations, with assistance from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

Samant stressed that the aspirations of the younger generation are shifting towards employment and entrepreneurship, necessitating exposure to modern technology, space, gaming, and emerging industries. He described Spacefest as an essential step towards addressing these changing aspirations and raising awareness about opportunities in the space economy.

The state government is committed to attracting both domestic and foreign investments in the space sector, generating employment, and fostering industrial growth. Samant assured that the commitments made through Spacefest will be pursued within set timelines, with the state government extending full support to Nodwin Gaming and all other stakeholders involved in the initiative.
