MACC probes RM80m Felda Palong 7 oil palm replanting scheme after settlers raise concerns

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating details surrounding the execution of the oil palm development and replanting initiative at Felda Palong 7 in Wilayah Raja Alias, Bandar Sri Jempol, Negeri Sembilan, including grievances regarding the seedlings' quality and adherence to the stipulated specifications.

According to a statement, MACC received this information from Pertubuhan Badan Bertindak Generasi Palong (Perbagi) chairman Mohd Syahrizal Md Yusuf, who expressed doubts about the seedlings' quality and the programme's implementation. The commission noted the allegations concerning the supply, delivery, storage, age, and specifications of the oil palm seedlings.

"MACC has taken note of the allegations and concerns raised and will examine the information to determine whether they involve any offences under its jurisdiction," the statement conveyed. Additionally, MACC acknowledged the request for the relevant technical agency to inspect the seedlings for quality and compliance with set specifications.

"Any further action will be determined based on the findings of the investigation and information obtained," the statement concluded. The oil palm replanting programme is estimated to benefit around 450 settlers in the region. MACC reiterated that receiving the information does not imply any party has committed an offense and should not be construed as a verdict against any individual or party involved.

Reports suggest that a group of new-generation Felda Palong 7 settlers had called for the MACC to probe the oil palm development and replanting programme, which is projected to cost between RM70 million and RM80 million.
