Lee Chang-dong explores power of human connection in 'Possible Love'

Renowned director Lee Chang-dong unveils his latest film, <i>Possible Love</i>, delving into the profound impact of human connection amid economic turmoil and societal expectations, according to a press conference held in Seoul on Tuesday. Departing from the conventional romantic narrative, Lee's cinematic masterpiece extends the exploration of love beyond the confines of romantic affection, examining the myriad forms of love individuals encounter throughout their lives.

The film poses the question: what forms of love are truly attainable, and how can we safeguard these precious bonds?

At the heart of the story lies a laid-off worker, Mi-ok (played by Jeon Do-yeon), and her husband, Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu), whose lives intersect with those of a wealthy couple residing in a starkly contrasting social stratum. Mi-ok is employed at a mask factory, while her husband grapples with profound trauma arising from the loss of his job during a violent strike crackdown.

Their quiet existence is disrupted when they encounter documentary filmmaker Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jung) and her husband Sang-woo (Zo In-sung). A joint summer vacation at Sang-woo's beachfront villa offers an opportunity for the struggling couple to reconnect, but it also sets the stage for unearthing long-concealed desires and deep-seated class tensions.
