Kalonzo, Wamalwa meet Gachagua as opposition plot to unseat Ruto intensifies

Nairobi, Kenya – On Tuesday, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa convened with DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua as opposition forces strive to unite under a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election. This development is a part of the "unity of purpose" campaign, aimed at consolidating opposition votes. Kalonzo confirmed the meeting on X, sharing the hashtag #WANTAM, while Wamalwa echoed the sentiment with "Umoja ni Nguvu!"

The meeting follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding by members of the United Alternative Government, pledging their collective support for a common presidential candidate in 2027. This alliance aims to prevent a relapse of past elections where opposition votes were fragmented across multiple candidates. Kalonzo has emerged as a frontrunner for the opposition ticket, with recent polls indicating strong support for him.

Nonetheless, Gachagua remains confident in his party's growing appeal, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), citing rising popularity. The three leaders are expected to continue their consultations and mobilization efforts to build a broader coalition prior to the 2027 elections. Gachagua is scheduled to embark on an extended United States tour on Wednesday, during which his allies will continue the consolidation of support within Kenya.
