Jeremiah Chiu is a Chicago-born, LA-based composer, multi-media artist, and modular synth expert. You might know him as a member of the quintent SML or the series of improvisational albums that he made in collaboration with the violist Marta Sofia Honer, including last year's Different Rooms . Now, Chiu announces plans to follow his 2023 solo album In Electric Time with a new one called Edge…
Chicago-born, LA-based composer Jeremiah Chiu is set to release his new album Edge Conditions on October 9th via International Anthem. The record follows his 2023 solo album In Electric Time and is a rhythmic exploration influenced by IDM producers of the 90s and 00s, as well as Chicago post-rock legends Tortoise.
The lead single "Plastic Mind / Elastic Machines" is a six-minute moody, stuttering zone-out that incorporates field recordings, voice from Japanese musician Takako Minekawa, and drums from Chiu's SML bandmate Booker Stardrum. Korey Martin, who also designed the album's hand-drawn animated cover art, commented that "Plastic Mind / Elastic Machines" was instrumental in shaping the entire record.
Chiu collaborated with fellow contemporaries such as Marta Sofia Honer, Patrick Shiroishi, and Resavoir's Will Miller on Edge Conditions. The tracklist includes Way In, A.M. Fuses, In Visibility, Edge Conditions, Interfaces, Plastic Mind / Elastic Machines, Sentimental Object, Doubles, Non-narrative, A Floral Pattern, and Night Fog.
Edge Conditions will be available for pre-order shortly. The album will be supported by a tour starting on September 10th in Chicago, IL at Plantasia, followed by shows in Brooklyn, NY, and Los Angeles, CA.
