Iranian media reports long lines and temporary closures at gas stations in Tehran

US President Donald Trump condemned Iran's recent executions of protesters as a "major humanitarian crisis" on Tuesday. The failed Islamic Republic of Iran has been executing individuals involved in mass demonstrations, even those not actively protesting, at an unprecedented rate, according to Trump's statement on Truth Social. This issue has escalated since the outbreak of war with the US and Israel on February 28.

Trump emphasized the need to stop this crisis immediately. The exact reason for his sudden post remains unclear. The increase in executions coincides with the joint Israeli-US strikes that initiated the conflict weeks after violent suppression of protests in Iran. Initially sparked by dissatisfaction with high living costs in late December, protests soon turned into widespread anti-government demonstrations peaking on January 8 and 9.

Iran claims over 3,000 deaths, attributing them to terrorist acts orchestrated by the US and Israel, while rights groups abroad report a significantly higher death toll from security forces' firing on demonstrators. Recently, more than 30 nations signed a letter strongly condemning Iran's executions and death penalty use in the strongest terms.

However, the US, where capital punishment is still legal, did not sign the letter. Since then, at least three additional executions in Iran have been reported in connection with the protests.
