IndyCar driver Graham Rahal spars with politicians over Freedom 250 criticism

After the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, veteran IndyCar driver Graham Rahal fired back at two politicians who criticized the event on social media. Senator Adam Schiff of California posted a video of President Trump waving the green flag, stating that the race was an opportunity for Trump to distract people from rising gas prices while also benefiting from taxpayer money.

Graham Rahal, with over 300 IndyCar starts and six race wins under his belt, quickly defended the event on social media. He clarified that the race was privately funded and that it drew thousands of Americans to Washington D.C., exposing them to American history and culture. Rahal also noted that the event had a positive economic impact on the city.

Representative Mark Pocan of Wisconsin echoed similar sentiments, claiming that President Trump was at the IndyCar race instead of addressing important issues like the Iran conflict and reducing costs for American people. Rahal responded by pointing out that the race description was incorrect, and also expressed his hope that IndyCar would continue to visit Wisconsin, given the economic benefits it brings to the state.

Despite the controversy, Rahal praised Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, saying that the city looked better than ever during the event. Rahal himself participated in a First Lady Melania Trump's "Fostering the Future" event at the White House before the race. Kyle Kirkwood ultimately won the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, while Rahal finished 13th in the 25-car field.
