Greece warns Turkey against violating sovereign rights, vows response from 'position of strength'

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis has issued a stern warning to Turkey, asserting that Greece will not tolerate any violations of its sovereign rights and will respond with the means at its disposal. He emphasized that the "maritime parks" promoted by Turkey are "illegal and lacking legal validity," and affirmed that Greece is "fully prepared for any scenario." Despite a commitment to peace, Gerapetritis stated that Greece is ready to take action if necessary.

Explaining Greece's preparedness, Gerapetritis mentioned the country's capability to deploy frigates and F-16 fighter jets, with plans to include F-35 jets in the future. He highlighted Greece's ongoing military build-up, citing the deployment of Rafale fighter jets, upgraded F-16 aircraft, and Belharra-class frigates. The Greek minister also referenced the country's successful military operations in Cyprus and the recent Middle East crisis, asserting that Greece's strength and security will be maintained.

Addressing the relationship between Greece and Israel, Gerapetritis noted that cooperation with Jerusalem is not an "overinvestment" but rather a crucial part of a broader, multi-layered foreign policy. He emphasized that Athens continues to maintain open channels with the Arab world, and security cooperation between Greece and Israel is expected to grow.

The recent air exercise conducted by the two nations over the Mediterranean was seen as a "message to the Turks," signaling stronger and more visible military collaboration, according to defense industry sources.

A Greek media outlet reported that Israel may consider striking Turkish assets in northern Cyprus if it perceives that Turkey's military presence threatens Israeli interests. The proposed scenario includes a potential airstrike on Ercan Airport and a naval base near Kyrenia. However, there is no official confirmation that such an operation has been decided upon by Israel.
