Grant Kanu presidential amnesty – Oluwo to President Tinubu

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to grant presidential amnesty to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, in a bid to foster national healing and unity. In a statement released by his media aide, Ibrahim Alli, the monarch urged the government to address lingering grievances stemming from the Nigerian Civil War.

Oba Akanbi praised Tinubu's inclusive governance style but called for additional steps towards reconciliation, including Kanu's release. He emphasized that addressing the post-war frustration of the Igbo community would contribute to national healing, likening the conflict's impact to post-traumatic stress. While acknowledging Kanu's actions merited imprisonment, the Oluwo urged the President to consider the broader identity and history of the Igbo people.

Oba Akanbi proposed setting up a panel to address historical grievances and promote reconciliation, stressing that the time was ripe to heal the nation's wounds.
