Ghana Premier League clubs competed without completing Club Licensing process – Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh

Ghana Premier League clubs were permitted to participate in the 2025/26 season despite not completing the required club licensing process, according to Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, chairman of the Ghana Football Association’s Club Licensing Committee. Dr Baah-Nuakoh revealed that none of the clubs were approved under the licensing regulations at the time because the process had not been completed, yet they were still allowed to play.

The authority to determine a club's eligibility to compete lies with the GFA’s Competition Department, not the Club Licensing Committee, Baah-Nuakoh explained. He emphasized that the committee cannot prevent a club from playing if they have been included in the league fixtures despite not holding a license, as this falls outside his jurisdiction.

The licensing committee's responsibility ends with making the decision and submitting it to the relevant authorities; the GFA is responsible for ensuring clubs comply with judicial decisions. Ahead of the 2026/27 season, 14 out of 18 proposed match venues have been approved, with the new campaign set to begin on 5 September.
