Gatik Raises $200M to Scale Driverless Freight Across North America

Gatik, an autonomous freight startup based in Santa Clara, has recently secured $200 million in Series D financing. The investment round was co-led by Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies, with additional contributions from Millennium Management, ARK Invest, and Intact Private Capital. This is the largest financing round to date for the company, which has raised approximately $500 million in total funding since its inception.

Gatik's primary focus is on commercial autonomous middle-mile freight operations, operating driverless trucks for major retailers, grocers, and consumer goods companies. The company currently serves Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, and Canada, with operations targeting frequent routes between distribution hubs and stores. Their driverless trucks can operate on highways or surface streets, utilizing dynamic routing to adapt to changing delivery demands.

Since its launch, Gatik has conducted over 85,000 full driverless deliveries and boasts a 99% on-time delivery performance. The company recently signed deals for over $600 million in contracted revenue, further demonstrating the increasing demand for autonomous freight in commercial applications. Their trucks, manufactured by Isuzu Motors, started with a focus on fixed, low (less than ten miles) delivery routes, but have since expanded to cover up to 400 miles, operating across various weather and road conditions.

Gatik's commercial customer base includes major retailers such as Walmart, Kroger, and Tyson Foods, as well as Canadian retailer Loblaw and PepsiCo's Frito-Lay operations. The company's technology, the Gatik Driver autonomous system, is designed for safe and consistent freight movement. Following the achievement of key technical milestones, Gatik removed safety drivers from commercial routes, allowing their latest generation trucks to operate continuously across commercial networks.

The latest financing round will be used to expand Gatik's autonomous fleet, currently composed of dozens of driverless trucks across North America. The company aims to build out its network to thousands of vehicles in the coming years, expanding into new markets while further developing existing operations. Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies have supported Gatik since 2021, recognizing the company's commercial approach and strategy in autonomous logistics.
