Fraudsters using iDeal switch to Wero to snare bank customers

Fraudsters are exploiting the transition from iDeal to Wero payment systems to target Dutch bank customers through phishing emails. These deceptive messages claim that customers are entitled to a refund due to the change, urging them to verify their identity by clicking on a link. This link directs victims to a page where the criminals can obtain their login details.

The Fraudehelpdesk.nl online fraud hotline is currently receiving 100 queries per day regarding suspicious messages related to iDeal, following a recent surge in activity. iDeal CEO Danial van Delft expressed concern about the situation, stating that fraudsters are becoming more inventive, capitalizing on every opportunity and news item.

He advised individuals to disregard suspicious emails and never click on links, emphasizing that iDeal will never request personal information through email, initiate a verification process, or require software installation.
