Ex-Edo Assembly Speaker Agbebaku kicks against impeachment

Blessing Agbebaku, the former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has vehemently denied accusations of impeachment. According to Agbebaku, he voluntarily resigned from his position and presented his resignation letter to the Majority Leader, Sunny Ojiezele, on August 17, 2026. The lawmakers subsequently converted his resignation into an impeachment following a motion seconded by Ahmed Oshioma Waziri.

Agbebaku maintains that he personally handed over his resignation letter and publicly announced his decision to resign during plenary. He firmly states that there is documentary and video evidence of the proceedings, which contradict the claims of impeachment. Agbebaku argues that resignation and impeachment are distinct processes and that political narratives should not alter documented history.

He explains that he resigned in the interest of peace, progress, and the development of Edo State and Owan West Constituency. The former Speaker emphasizes his commitment to providing effective representation for the people of Owan West Constituency and his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Agbebaku reiterates that on August 17, 2026, he voluntarily resigned as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and was not impeached. He stresses the importance of factual history and condemns the rewriting of events.
