El-Rufai: Northern elders must rise above differences – ADC chieftain

Former ADC National Vice Chairman Mallam Jafar Ibrahim Sani has called on Northern elders and political leaders to set aside their differences and uphold justice and fair procedures in the ongoing case involving former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. In his statement titled "El-Rufai, The North, Our Elders and the Test of Loyalty," Sani emphasized that the situation should prompt a reflection on the political culture being established for future generations.

He noted that political relationships have become more transactional, with loyalty often being displayed when there are benefits, but often abandoned during adversity. While acknowledging that opinions on El-Rufai may vary, Sani pointed out that his impact on Nigeria's public life cannot be ignored. He expressed concern over the limited support from some who were once very close to him, emphasizing that loyalty is particularly crucial during difficult times.

Sani urged the Northern elders, stakeholders, and political leaders not to allow political disagreements to be used as justification for disregarding fairness and due process. He stressed that justice should be the guiding principle in addressing El-Rufai's situation, regardless of personal relationships or political differences.

Sani clarified that El-Rufai's comments did not imply that the North lacks elders, scholars, traditional rulers, or experienced leaders. Instead, he argued that the North deserves a better quality of life, prosperity for its children, and a stronger global standing. He highlighted that achieving these goals requires honest reflection and action from all quarters.
