Egyptian Ambassador urges Ghana, Egypt collaboration in sports, tourism, business

Egypt's Ambassador to Ghana, Wael Fathy Ahmed, commended the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for its role in promoting armwrestling and urged for increased collaboration between the two nations in sports. During a meeting at the Egyptian High Commission, officials from the Ghana Federation discussed potential partnerships in armwrestling, sports business, tourism and athlete development.

A major highlight of the talks was the possibility of armwrestling being featured in the 2027 African Games, set to be held in Egypt. The Ghana delegation emphasized the sport's success at the recent African Games hosted by Ghana and its capacity to contribute to Egypt's medal aspirations. Ambassador Fathy emphasized that sports can be a powerful means to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly through youth engagement and personal connections.

Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling Federation, suggested that Egypt could serve as a key partner in expanding armwrestling across Africa. He proposed exchanges of athletes and coaches, coaching programs, training camps, and tournaments to improve the abilities of athletes, coaches, referees, and administrators.

The discussions also touched on avenues for sponsorship, sports marketing, event organization, and investments, with the hope that major armwrestling events would boost tourism, hospitality, and cultural exchanges.
