Delhi on alert over Bhatti threat before BRICS

New Delhi police have increased monitoring due to intelligence suggesting Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzad Bhatti may have plans to carry out an attack, potentially a bombing or targeting police, during the upcoming BRICS Summit. Officials warn the threat aims to create panic and draw attention rather than cause mass casualties.

The focus is on preventing the attack, as securing every location is impractical. Bhatti may enlist help from members of a proscribed pro-Khalistan group. This comes after a nationwide crackdown on Bhatti's criminal network, resulting in numerous arrests and seized weapons. Bhatti is known to operate from Pakistan and recruit through online platforms.

Police are monitoring suspects and analyzing intelligence to identify potential local enablers. Intelligence agencies have also issued an alert about a potential threat to military installations in Amritsar. Despite the heightened security measures, officials do not consider an attack imminent.
