Colombia lifts coal export ban on Israel imposed over Gaza genocide

Colombia's newly appointed right-wing government has lifted the coal export ban on Israel, reversing an embargo set by former President Gustavo Petro to prevent the use of Colombian resources in funding Israel's Gaza genocide. Trade Minister Mauricio Gomez Amin confirmed this decision in a video alongside President Abelardo de la Espriella, who displayed the relevant document.

Gomez Amin noted, "We have the decree that authorises the export of coal." However, the government has not disclosed the decree's number, the date it was published in the Official Gazette, or the specific conditions exporters must fulfill. It is also uncertain when coal shipments will recommence. Former President Petro had severed diplomatic ties with Israel in May 2024, following the Israeli assault on Gaza. His administration had restricted thermal coal exports in August of that year.
